SMM was engaged in 2016 to provide a concept design for a regional cycle route in Mosman, linking the Spit Bridge with Cremorne in North Sydney. The concept acknowledged the natural beauty of the area and the potential of the route to connect both pedestrians and cyclists with the broader landscape.

The design of Spit East attempts to reconnect the individual with the adjacent foreshore and allow for views across the harbour. This was achieved by creating a shared zone facility linking the popular commuter stretch of Parriwi Road with The Spit Bridge and giving preference to pedestrian movement over vehicles that currently use the area as a short cut, avoiding Military Road.

By relocating parking spaces from the foreshore to the roadside; pedestrians, cyclists and visitors are given the opportunity to connect with the harbour and the stunning views the area has to offer, in a safe environment. Opportunities for motorist views into the foreshore were also created through strategic planting design including low coastal groundcovers and native banksia trees.
