SMM were the lead consultant on this project that involved the creation of a new civic space in Canberra, near the shores of Lake Burley Griffin in the Parliamentary Triangle. The design creates a clear, unified space linking the National Library of Australia (NLA) and the Questacon National Science Center. The extension of Reconciliation Place up to the NLA restores historic views between the NLA and the National Gallery. Forecourt amenities and parklands provided improved access and safety for tourists and workers.

“The design planning and then the design implementation have achieved a successful integration of the formal vistas, the structured, tree shaded sculpture rooms and the native planted, organic forms, inspired by the regional bushland, which seamlessly and appropriately links to the Reconciliation Place” AILA National Award for Design 2012 citation
