Stop AAPI Hate

As a team, Spackman Mossop Michaels is committed to actively building a community in which our Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander friends, colleagues and neighbors are safe, seen, supported. What makes SMM and the spaces we create extraordinary is the diversity of our team and the experiences we each bring to the table. We stand together with the AAPI community in support, healing, and action toward the reparation for the trauma that has been endured.

We vehemently denounce the minimizing and erasure of the hateful, racist violence that individuals have been permitted to speak and carry out in our country, especially in this past year and tragically with the recent murder of 8 indviduals - six women of Asian descent - in Georgia. We recognize that racism and bigotry do not just happen; these are conscious acts, and they are hate crimes. We must respond, and we pledge to speak up, call out and take daily action by confronting individuals and entities that tolerate and promote hatred and violence toward the AAPI community, and of any kind.

Individually and as a firm, we are committed to taking part in dismantling white supremacy in our industry, community, and work. We are engaged in an industry focused book club centered on educating ourselves in the deep seeded racism in design and infrastructure. We have committed to working in the New Orleans community by offering dedicated time for our designers and staff to engage with organizations and projects that are moving this work forward. And, we will continue to hold open discussions within our office and in our collaborations to progress these commitments and deepen our pledge. This work of rooting out racism and hate will take all of us. SMM is dedicated to educating ourselves and to working in united and collective action and advocacy.
