Living Colour Floral Display

Urban Design

City of Sydney
Sydney, NSW

Living Colour Festival is a floral display throughout Sydney’s inner city aimed at engaging and inspiring the community through seasonal plantings, plant sculpture and unusual species. The SMM installation dealt with the concept of weeds. Through the floral and leafy texture of a variety of common weeds, it demonstrated that the concept of a weed is an arbitrary human construct relying on social and economic factors. The project makes connections to topical debates about asylum seekers in Australia, immigration and manipulation of the natural world for our own ends.
