Livernois/McNichols Public Realm Plan

City of Detroit
Detroit, MI

The City of Detroit has engaged Spackman Mossop Michaels to create a comprehensive public realm plan for the Livernois and McNichols corridors in northwest Detroit. The goal of the project is to provide a multi-neighborhood urban design framework that will reactivate the commercial corridors and provide an inclusive vision of urban life in 21st century Detroit.

SMM is currently investigating the overall identity of the corridor, urban tree canopy, urban design, streetscape design, bicycle and pedestrian mobility, parking, renovation and future development opportunities, critical nodes, and gateways. This public realm plan can be transformational for the area in not only helping to stabilize and support existing neighborhoods but to also provide a new model of urban redevelopment through consideration of the landscape as a significant community asset.
