Lafitte Greenway Shelter

City of New Orleans
New Orleans, LA
WDG Architects Engineers, Batture, Morphy Makofsky Inc, StudioBKA

The City of New Orleans engaged Spackman Mossop Michaels to complete the partial demolition and rehabilitation of a storm damaged Lopez Street Brake Tag Station to facilitate the repurposing of this structure as an open air pavilion/pedestrian area available for groups, workshops, meetings, markets, music events and private events as opportunities to generate rental revenue for the Lafitte Greenway. Prior to Katrina, the building was used for brake tag inspections. The single story structure is ~12,400 SF and measures 172’ x 72’ with a built up roofing system over the main structure. The Lafitte Greenway Shelter project is funded through FEMA Funding(s).

SMM also designed the wildflower superbloom meadows that adjoin the multi-use trail that stretches 2.6 miles and connects 6 historic neighborhoods of New Orleans.
