Fitzgerald Neighborhood Revitalization Plan

vacant lot design

Client
City of Detroit
Location
Detroit, MI

SMM developed a flexible landscape plan to activate and improve every publicly-owned parcel in the project area with the goal of creating a blight-free 1/4 square mile. The plan incorporated feedback from residents on current neighborhood issues as well as amenities they would like to see in their neighborhood. The plan provides a framework that balances the needs for greater open space and recreation, opportunities to develop new productive landscapes, and the sustainability of long-term maintenance. The park is one of the first components of the Fitzgerald Revitalization Plan to be implemented. A Workforce Development component was developed with a local non-profit, The Greening of Detroit, and extensive work was done by the Detroit Land Bank to organize clear title.
